Ruth-Helene Melioranski is a designer and researcher. Mait Laas is a movie director. Ruth-Helene Melioranski and Mait Laas met while they both worked at animation studios. They both thought that the long tradition of making animated movies in Estonia needed a more extended vision and bigger impact than it did at the time, this was especially in relation to children’s education. In December 2001, the Children's animation school was established and the first courses started in 2002.
Project
Nukufilmi Lastestuudio is an animation school with 16 years of experience in helping children to tell their stories. Animation is a powerful tool of visualisation which is becoming increasingly relevant in todays world when a majority of the information is relayed visually. Through teaching the children how to make movies, we also teach them how to receive and understand them. Our school's main mission is children's education.
Impact story
It is a good moment when you see a child with social interaction or educational difficulties strive and find motivation, patience in making an animation and visualize their thoughts and stories. Also, through that animation, they are seen and given and outlet for their thoughts and feelings.
