ATLAS KOMPETANSE
After 10 years of working with refugees in the municipality, Firdawsa and Saad decided to quit their jobs at the municipality to start Atlas Kompetanse in 2014. They started Atlas Kompetanse to create flexible and effective methods in the work with refugee families. Their goal is to develop innovative solutions that meet families on the specific challenges they face in Norwegian society.

Project

The parents we work with would like to give their children the best possible care in Norway. Misunderstandings and poor language complicate their situation unnecessarily. Atlas Kompetanse wants to prevent this by improving dialogue and strengthening parental understanding of the system. Our goal is to develop flexible and innovative services to strengthen parents' understanding of the Norwegian system so that they can make well informed choices for their children.

Impact story

Last year we were acquainted with a five-year-old boy. He was no longer going to live with his mother, and his father had limited contact with the boy and felt uncertain about how to care for a child who might have special needs. Atlas Kompetanse did an assessment of possible living situations for the boy. One of our family counselors met the father on a weekly basis. His father received information and tools to create a better relationship and to give his son the help he needed. After a few months, the nursery told us that they saw a distinct positive development in the boy. His father has been engaged and teachable, he has worked hard to give his son the best possible care.
