Project

We have created a team that unites specialists and parents to do what speaks to our hearts – to support families that have children with autism. We are united by our passion to fight social problems in Latvia, especially against the rejecting attitude of institutions and society towards families that have autistic children. These families often feel misunderstood, rejected and are not receiving necessary support. Additionally, there is a shortage of resources and specialists. Because of this we have created a Multifunctional center for children and youth with autism called Step Upwards.

Impact story

The 10-year-old boy was excluded from several schools. He was homeschooled for 2 years. During this time, he had no communication with peers. After being a part of Step Upwards socialization group, he learned about friendship, to participate in common activities and games lead by other children. Although this development may appear as basic, it is crucial for the development of children with autism. Chiefly since these children need an emotionally safe environment, support and time to learn.
